Brandon Price, Top 8 (7th Overall) BCS Chicago (Rosemont), IL 25/26

Brandon has been playing Weiss Schwarz since this past late July when he was introduced to the game by his playgroup at Nu Yeer Games. He and his buddies were talking after a Union Arena local event and showed him the IP (Intellectual Property) list for the game. Brandon saw Rurouni Kenshin and immediately ordered 10 boxes. He picked up the game pretty quickly from what he was told, but he does have a background in competitive Magic with quite a few Day Twos at Grand Prix or SCG Opens prior to the Covid Pandemic. Let's get to know this experienced TCG competitor in the interview!

Melanie Lynette (ML): How did the event go for you? Was there anything specific that you'd like to share from the start?

Brandon Price (BP): The event went well, especially for my first event.

Winning Decklist:

BushiNavi Code: 1KT5E

Brandon's own overview of his deck. Be sure to go and check it out!

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 1 go for you?

BP: I won against Rurouni Kenshin 8 Choice. This was against the mirror and my deck was more aggressive.

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 2 go for you?

BP: I won against Lycoris Recoil. I pushed my opponent to Level 3 faster then he could get set up.

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 3 go for you?

BP: I won against Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. I played against a fellow car mate. Unfortunately, I hit him for lethal with no climaxes left in deck.

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 4 go for you?

BP: I won against Bang Dream 4 Gold Bar/ 4 Comeback (Gate). I was versus Bang Dream, but he only saw 1 turn of Oblivionis. He also was not set up for Doloris when he got pushed to Level 3.

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 5 go for you?

BP: I lost against Bang Dream. This was my first loss to Bang Dream. Going into his combo turn, my deck had 6 climaxes and did not end up hitting more than 2.

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 6 go for you?

BP: I lost against The Quintessential Quintuplets. This was another loss to Quints to put me 4-2. I hit my opponent for lethal 3 times, but they cancelled each time.

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 7 go for you?

BP: I won against Hololive Production. This was the final round was against Hololive. My opponent kept warping my deck around, but not sticking damage. Thankfully, at 5-2, my tie breakers had me at the top of the 5-2 players for 15th.

ML: And after deck checks, top cut! How did Top 16 go?

BP: I won against Revue Starlight 4 Gate (Pants)/ 4 Comeback (Door). My top 16 opponent sent me to level 2 quickly. Thankfully, I cancelled a bit after that, and my opponent did not have the right combo in hand when I shoved him from level 1 to 3.

ML: And after deck checks, top cut! How did Top 8 go?

BP: I lost against Bang Dream. My opponent was the same Bang Dream player I lost to in the 5th round. My opponent cancelled a lot of my early damage and again when he was at Level 3. He stock swapped 2 of my climaxes and swung for exactly lethal with his last swing. I ate 4 for the loss and checked to see 3 climaxes in a row.

ML: Congratulations on your accomplishment! Are there any final reflections or shout outs you would like to share?

BP: A huge shout out to everyone who showed up and my play group from Nu Yeer games who introduced me to the game back in July!
