Trey has an amazing video breaking down his journey through the Fairy Tail set here on YouTube on his channel! Please give it a watch before or after the interview to gain some more insight.

Trey has been playing Weiss Schwarz since 2012. He took a break from playing from 2019-2021, but otherwise has been playing the game non-stop!

Now onto the interview!
Melanie Lynette (ML): How did the event go for you? Was there anything specific that you'd like to share from the start?
Trey B. (TB): I was very proud of how this event worked out for me as a player. I chose Fairy Tail because I felt it was the best fit for the meta. I am able to control my deck plays while responding to what my opponent's deck is doing, with the added bonus of some players being unfamiliar with this match up due to its low representation.
Winning Decklist:
BushiNavi Code: 5465F

ML: What was your match up and how did Round 1 go for you?
TB: I won against NIKKE: Goddess of Victory: Comeback (Door)/ Standby. My opponent had kind of a rough game, and I remember he had to dual lane a turn where there wasn't much of a reason to do so either than being short resources in hand. (I admit, due to being tired, I may not be remembering this match exactly.) I was then able to field triple Natsu to close out the game.
ML: What was your match up and how did Round 2 go for you?
TB: I won against Aogiri High School: Choice / Comeback (Door). This deck was genuinely terrifying. I didn't have any in the field play against it prior to the event, and I just had to remember things as they came up while playing. I was able to squeeze it out because he decided to go for a line where he chose with his only Level 3 combo that he got out to heal 4 rather than to resolve the on attack burn 2. I would have lost right there if he had done the burn 2, but the decision to heal 4 instead saved me. He wasn't able to close out the game, and it allowed me a chance to swing back for the win.
ML: What was your match up and how did Round 3 go for you?
TB: I won against Gakuen Idolm@ster Comeback (Door) / Choice / Comeback (Door). My opponent played very well, but they just weren't able to get their Level 1 combos. Even when they went for and got their Level 2 combo and were compressing, I was able to keep up by refreshing and basically doing the same thing. Also, Level 2 combos have trouble with Lucy who can just swing in against them at 14k for fun. From there I was able to win the match.
ML: What was your match up and how did Round 4 go for you?
TB: I won against Oshi no Ko: 4 Comeback (Door)/ 4 Gate (Pants). This match was against the person who I lost my local Finals match to during Regionals, Ling. He made Top 16 also! Don't worry! We both realized that the reason I lost my game to him in our match in Georgia was due to the fact that I pushed him to Level 3 first. In that game I had attempted to deny him that, but he used the Aqua Riki on play to level himself up and close out the game. During this match, we tried to delay sending the other person to Level 3 by passing turns. I kept track of his Aqua's, which when he finally did get one, he would have expended too many resources to triple Akane Level 3 on the field. I was able to close out this game for a win.
ML: What was your match up and how did Round 5 go for you?
TB: I won against Gakuen Idolm@ster: 4 Comeback (Door)/ 4 Gate (Pants). Both my opponent and I had a rough game. In the mid-game I ended up crashing most of my board for their memory effects because I was only able to get one copy of my 1/1 event counter. My opponent was set up his only 1/0 on reverse combo, and fronted into my event counter. I'm fairly certain that one play cost him the game, or greatly influenced it's outcome at least.
ML: And after deck checks, top cut! How did Top 16 go?
TB: I lost against Gakuen Idolm@ster: 4 Comeback (Door)/ 4 Gate (Pants). This match wasn't a rematch, but was a match up against someone else's similar list. This game was kind of odd. My opponent had a very rough game, being out 7 climaxes by end of Turn 1. I attempted to push damage early game to take advantage of that with my 0/0 Natsu's that can trigger step twice for taking a damage. I very quickly ended up taking more damage than expected as the game progressed, and I went into the final turn with four cards in hand: A gold bar, a copy of my early play check top X, and 2 copies of Natsu. I drew a Natsu for turn, but then had to make a hard decision of whether to try trigger a climax to get off triple Natsu or to dig for combo with the early play 3/2 and guarantee 2. I decided to go for the guarantee 2 Natsu, and my clock drew me the climax combo, plus I triggered a climax on the first few attacks that would have led me to getting off triple. In hindsight, if I had clocked the climax instead I would have probably been able to close out this game. I ran into my opponent in Houston at the English WS BCS Regional and he let me know that he didn't expect to have won that game because he was already out several climaxes. A very nice player!
ML: Congratulations on your accomplishments, including going undefeated in Swiss! (Your opponents' win percentages had you in 1st place at the end our Swiss rounds!) Are there any final reflections or shout outs you would like to share?
TB: I have never had an undefeated run Swiss before, and am notorious for either choking near the end or bubbling out (like this past weekend at Houston). I have a very bad history if I'm not a guaranteed X-0 or X-1, I just don't make it into top cut. Going undefeated was very meaningful for me and a great experience.
Shoutout to all my Atlanta locals, especially Marty! A special shoutout to all those who have supported me throughout the years to make it this far!
ML: And that concludes our interview with JP NA WGP 25/26 Top 16 Trey B.! A special thanks to Trey for sharing with us! Congratulations again on your achievements and good luck as you continue to compete is EN WS BCS the remainder of this season!
